Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) in PCB Manufacturing
Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) uses high-resolution industrial cameras and intelligent image processing technology to quickly and accurately detect various defects in PCBs, such as soldering quality, component placement, missing or incorrect components, and polarity. This significantly improves production efficiency and product quality.
Working Principle of AOI
AOI equipment performs fully automatic scanning of PCBs on the production line, capturing images from multiple angles and with various lighting methods. The built-in software compares the captured images with preset standard samples, automatically identifying common defects such as cold solder joints, bridging, short circuits, open circuits, component misalignment, or missing components, and immediately alerts operators for corrective action.
Main Advantages
- High speed and accuracy: AOI enables rapid mass inspection, greatly improving production efficiency and reducing human errors.
- Non-destructive testing: The inspection process does not require contact with the PCB, ensuring product integrity.
- Intelligent management: Inspection results can be automatically recorded and traced for quality analysis and process improvement.
- Cost reduction: Early detection and correction of defects reduce subsequent repair and scrap costs.
- Adaptable to various processes: AOI can be widely used in SMT, through-hole, wave soldering, reflow soldering, and other PCB manufacturing stages.
Applications
AOI is widely used in consumer electronics, automotive electronics, industrial control, medical devices, communication equipment, and other fields with strict product quality requirements.
